ZooNation’s reimagining of Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland is a Hip Hop infused tea party like no other.
The Queen of Hearts has anger issues, Alice is confused about just how big or small her body actually is and The Mad Hatter, suffering from mercury poisoning, just wants to drink tea! As the much loved characters are confined to Ladrington Brook, the Institution for Extremely Normal Behavioiur, Ernest, an expert in ‘normalisation theory’, has his work cut out for him. He is tasked with fixing the residents of Ward ‘W’ but as he gets closer to his patients, Ernest realises, what’s so great about being ‘normal’ anyway?
Written and directed by Kate Prince with music by Josh Cohen and D.J. Walde, the production was originally commissioned by the Royal Ballet and opened at the Royal Opera House Linbury Theatre in 2014. It transferred to the Roundhouse in 2017 and was revived in the Linbury Theatre in 2024.
